GAA Nelson Lakes & Molesworth Areas

Please help us all to safely enjoy this fantastic new airspace by following the activation protocol below. If the trial goes well for Airways and other airspace users throughout this summer, the NZHGPA will be able to apply for permanent designation of the three GAAs: NZG850, NZG851, and NZG854.

ACTIVATION

Read: MOU Airways/NZHGPA

1. Temporary GAAs will be activated until ECT as follows:
   • NZG851 Molesworth – 12,500 ft + NZG854 Branch – 10,500 ft (activated together)
   • NZG850 Spenser – 11,500 ft
   • Do NOT request ATC: Activation of NZG870 Lakes Station with the other GAA’s NZG850, 851 and 854.
2. Activation: ATC Approval Only.

4. GAAs will NOT be activated: If icing is forecast above 9,500 ft.

6. Please inform others when GAAs are open:
   Post which GAA(s), date, and time are OPEN on the NZHGPA Nelson Lakes User Group. This will help other NZHGPA and Gliding New Zealand pilots and reduce unnecessary calls to the Airways Duty Manager.
